Vidroha Jamie St. Clair
Vidroha Jamie St. Clair has teamed up with award winning and grammy nominated producer Kit Walker, and the band Indo Reel, a collection of international world musicians, to create new Indian, Celtic, and jazz fusion.Jamie, a musician for 38 years and recording artist for 18, produced his first recording of world music in 1989 in Munich Germany with a production of satsang music performed at the TAO Meditation Center. Since then he has three more CDs to his credit, and 15 years of specializing in music for meditation as well as performance.
Jamie
lived in India during the years 1988–-1998. His work in
India included training in meditation, also as a therapist in the healing arts. After living and
working for ten years in India, his musical influences shifted
from rock & roll and the blues to the mystical relationship
between music, silence, and meditation. His compositions and
voicings took on softer contours from the Indian influence of
music, and at the same time moving more towards jazz.
Jamie s first album, Celtic Ragas, was a collaboration with English born sarod player, Chinmaya Dunster (New Earth Records). Celtic Ragas enjoyed success in the new age music genre, and gained the recognition of Paul McCartney, who liked the music so much, he endorsed the album, saying, "I love the way they blend the Celtic and Indian music. This has become one of my favorite CDs."
"My own family roots trace back to Ireland and yet when
I arrived the first time in India I had the uncanny feeling
of arriving home. All the musicians playing on Indo Reel have
lived in India for a time, and most also visited or lived in
the UK as well. The roots of this music lie in a higher discipline,
that of meditating under the guidance of a master, a distinctly
Eastern phenomenon. Ultimately, the real fusion of this music
lies not just in that of crossing Indian melodies and instrumentation
with Celtic, but of creating expression for the silence of the
meditative heart, the Zen Heart, in sound and celebration."

Celtic Ragas
Celtic Ragas (available here at Amazon or here at New Earth Records with real audio samples) Reviews:
"I love the unique blend of Irish and Indian style music on this record. It has become one of my favorites."
Paul McCartney
"This music features sarod player Chinmaya Dunster and guitarist Vidroha Jamie
finding a surprisingly fertile common ground between Irish and Indian music. Dunster and Jamie, along with a group of musicians who play violin, percussion, flute, bass, and tanpura, create gentle soundscapes that range from the playful rhythms of "A Gypsy Tale" to the haunting, almost spooky beauty of "The Mists of Ruantallain." The arrangements are focused, and even on slow, meditative tracks like "Mere Hamsafar," the tempo never drags and the melodies don't meander. The mix of Indian and Irish elements works particularly well on "Tara," on which the buzzing, microtonal sound of the sarod meshes with the rhythms of a courtly dance and creates a sonic dream where the musicians of Ireland and India play in the castle of an ancient Celtic king. Dunster and Jamie describe Celtic Ragas as "Indo-Celtic chill-out music," a too-trendy term that nonetheless captures the essence of their soothing sound." --

INDO REEL and INFUSION musicians:
Vidroha Jamie s first album with New Earth Records, Celtic Ragas, gained the recognition of Paul McCartney, who said of the music that it had become one of his favorite CDs. Jamie grew up with the folk, rock, and blues styles of bands such as Crosby, Stills and Nash, and the Band. After studying acting, fencing, and stage combat at the Asolo Theatre in Florida, he abandoned a career in acting to travel to India to embark on an exploration of meditation and personal growth in the international commune of Osho, as well as his interest in the mystical relationship between music, silence, and meditation. Jamie lived in India for 12 years and began developing his own unique guitar style and melodic compositions blended with softer jazz chords and influenced by the experience of the Eastern meditation traditions he was exploring. Jamie is currently on the board of the Osho Meditation Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to meditation and personal growth in Boulder, CO. This year Jamie is releasing TWO albums of music, very different in style, one Indo Reel, acoustic instrumental music with Indian and Celtic influences, and one a vocal rock album. He's very happy with the group of musicians he shares these creations with.

Chinmaya Dunster (sarod) plays on Indo Reel album only.
After attending Art College and oddjobbing as a farmhand, Chinmaya took himself off, watercolors and Spanish guitar in hand, on the hippy trail that led through Afghanistan to India. It was at an all -night concert in New Delhi in 1979 where he heard a performance by the world-famous sarodist Amjad Ali Khan and instantly fell in love with the sarod (a nineeteen-stringed, banjo-like Indian classical instrument).
Chinmaya dedicated the next thirteen years to the study of Indian classical music on the sarod, both in London and at the Osho Commune in Pune, India. The 1990s saw four releases from Chinmaya on Nightingale Records: Spiral Dance, a collaboration with the Persian musician Sirus; a solo project Lands of the Dawn; and, after intensive study of Chinese geomancy, the two CDs Music for Feng Shui Parts 1 and 2. His release Celtic Ragas with Vidroha Jamie, a blend of Indian and Celtic elements, appeared on New Earth Records in 1998.

After graduating in philosophy from the University of Oxford in 1968 he founded the acoustic trio "Mythica" that made a mark in English clubs and on the BBC with a blend of folk, blues and poetry.
In 1977 he wandered through Mexico and Central America on foot, supporting himself by playing tin whistle on the streets. He went to India in 1979, backpacking his violin through the Himalayas, and settled at the Rajneesh ashram where he played with musicians from all over the world and learned to play the electric bass. In London in the early 80's he went deep into the Irish music of his roots, and joined the Medina Ceilidh band on fiddle. He moved to Japan in 1989 where he played Irish dances on the streets of Yokohama and toured and recorded in Japan and Europe with the legendary Okinawan folk singer Shokichi Kina.
