Crosby, Stills and Nash meet Ry Cooder . . .

Get the whole story on Jamie St Clair's official website.
Jamie St Clair is a new voice in folk rock music with the sensitivity and vocals that made Crosby, STills and Nash, and a totally original take on the folk rock sound combining East India instruments like the sarod (similar to slide guitar) and swarmandel (India harp) with a driving guitar, back beat, and provocative lyrics.

From Jamie's blog:

I was really lucky on this CD, every musician I asked to contibute to it said yes. . .

So I'm working with a really deep collection of experienced musicians, Talia, Ashik, Kit, everyone's got a lot of experience on the stage and in the recording studio. I'm really happy with how it turned out.

The style I have has been compared to Crosby, Stills & Nash meets Ry Cooder, which I'm flattered by, but isn't totally acurate. The vocals on songs like Let Go of Love, Sermons in Stones, and All Along the Watchtower I guess are reminiscent of the CSN harmonies. The Ry Cooder reference of course is to the acoustic slide guitar, but the instrument in question is not a guitar at all, it's the East Indian sarod. The sarod is a fretless instrument that looks a bit like a banjo and has something like 5 main strings and 18 harmonic strings. Praashekh playing the sarod definitely adds something to the mix very alive, exotic, and also totally drives and is original. I mean there's Jai Uttal doing some great stuff, but that's really a Westerner playing the instrument, and that's just a different feeling.

The cover of All Along the Watchtower, is done with an undertone of pointing up the Matrix-like inference of the first line "There must be some way out of here..." as if the Joker were a version of Neo looking to get out of the Matrix.

I'm also working on a video for that piece which is pretty simple footage of the band playing the music in different contexts. It's shot entirely in India.

Recording/Mixing Studios

recording tech

Sublime Dezine Studio works closely with several beautiful studios for recording, mixing, and production. Our two main recording studios are Dancing Leaf Studio in Nederland, CO, and the Kit Walker Free House Music Studio, in California. We just had a great experience (Feb 2010) with Nitin Joshi at Sound Ideaz in Pune, India (full Pro Tools set up).

Ashik Lynch

At Dancing Leaf Studio (Ashik Lynch left), Ashik's 45 years of experience as a musician is a unique resource.  Over the years he has been a supporting performer for the following recording artists:
Tom Paxton, Peter, Paul & Mary, Muddy Waters, Roberta Flack, Lenny Kravitz, Linda Ronstadt, and Miles Davis. As a violinist he has played with the following performing artists: Graham Bond, Dudu Pukwana, Lee Clayton, David Lindley, Prem Joshua, and Japanese star Shoukichi Kina, and the bass with Peter Makena.

Kit Walker

At the Kit Walker Studio (left), Kit's credits as a pianist include two Windham Hill Jazz releases in the 1980. As a producer and studio artist he's worked with Journey guitarist Neal Schon on his album "Electric World", and was keyboardist with Jai Uttal and the Pagan Love Orchestra, appearing on their albums, "Shiva Station", and the Grammy-nominated "Mondo Rama". His ear for your music and manifesting the sound you are hearing for your project is uncanny, and becomes a priceless asset in any project.

Nitin Joshi

In Pune, India, Nitin's Sound Ideaz Studio (right) is easy to get to, and he's super easy to work with. Needless to say, he's doing great work, having produced 5 CDs for Times Music India, and several more for SONY BMG, two of the largest labels in India. Our yearly visits there can easily include more projects for mixing, end products being finished 24 bit tracks for mastering. Sample mp3 clips can be sent out at request (contact Sublime Dezine Records).

Voice Over Recording

Sublime Dezine Studio can provide professional trained talent for voice over work in the Boulder/Denver area. Ashik Lynch and Jamie St Clair, both with experience and training, can provide male voice over for narration, commercial, or radio/tv spots. Suvarna Freeman is our female voice. Ashik is fabulous with accents. In the nineties Ashik was a successful voice-over artist in Tokyo, so with that experience and his many years of audio editing he can take on any project involving sound-for-picture, narration, and educational materials. Jamie St Clair has specialized in docu style voice over for video.
